THE SYMBOL OF VIETNAMESE CULTURE – ONE PILLAR PAGODA

One Pillar Pagoda or Chua Mot Cot in Vietnamese is located in the central of Hanoi capital. Near the Ho Chi Minh Museum, One Pillar Pagoda is the long-standing historical relics, an ancient destination and a symbol of Hanoi capital thousand years of civilization.

One Pillar Pagoda with other name is Dien Huu Tu or Lien Hoa Dai. It owns distinctive architectural structure - a square structure lying on a stone pillar. It is a unique architectural point for this temple to become one of the famous tourist attractions in Hanoi. A system of solid wood helped the temple float on the lake like a lotus flower. Over the years, this pagoda was renovated and upgraded several times. One Pillar Pagoda now is a part of the architectural complex of Dien Huu Pagoda. The pagoda was built with the first name is Lien Hoa Dai, now it is known as One Pillar Pagoda. The pagoda is 3m in diameter and the curved roof is 4m high (not including the submersible) with a diameter of 1.2m. The stone block consists of two blocks, very tightly attached. The unique architecture of the One Pillar Pagoda is that the whole temple is located on a stone pillar. The upper part of the pillar has eight wooden wings, which look like lotus blossoms, which function immediately with the eight pillars of the pagoda (four large columns and four additional columns). These columns support the horizontal crossings of the temple roof. The temple has a fiery moon and a dragon head carved on the moon. In the temple, the statue of Buddha Guan Yin (with many hands) painted yellow. Above the Buddha statue is a lacquer "lotus" (lotus). Statue of Guan Yin also sitting on a lotus lacquer made of gold wood, in the highest position. The temple has four roofs, four heads are curved dragon head. From the temple grounds to the floor of the temple to chant, worshipers must step up 13 steps, the width of 1.4m, the two sides have brick wall construction.

One Pillar Pagoda was chosen as one of the most famous symbols of Hanoi capital. In addition, the iconic One Pillar Pagoda also found on the back of 5000 dong metal coins of Vietnam. In Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh City also has a version of One Pillar Pagoda. There is also a version of the One Pillar Pagoda built at the Hanoi-Moscow Cultural and Commercial Center Complex, which is the largest Vietnamese construction site in Vietnam foreign current. One Pillar Pagoda carries a deep and impressive human philosophy of life with squares representing the yin, and the circle columns represent the yang.
