Clients at GAR Services produce high quality protective packaging material from newspapers donated by local residents and businesses. The newspaper packaging material is used by manufacturers of fine merchandise to wrap their products to protect against scratches and abrasions during shipment. The clients sort the donated newspapers to select only undamaged full sheets. Advertisements, magazines, half-pages, damaged pages and inserts are sent for recycling. The undamaged full sheets of newspaper are smoothed and stacked. When a Client has accumulated a stack of sheets weighing 17 pounds, the stack is rolled, tied and shipped to the Workshop customers . The Clients are paid a "piece-work" rate for the finished rolls of paper.
